With all the rain we have been having, the Hoosic has been either too high to fish or just plain scary high. Last night I fished it for the first time in too many weeks. Still a bit high. 64*F. Did pretty good. #18 nymphs and/or dry flies fished wet just under the surface. The best fish of the evening was a 15" class rainbow with just spectacular color. It was so much fun I may have to do it again tonight. AgMD

I have driven by there, but always without a rod... Sounds like you had a nice outing!

You've described that river perfectly. High or too high. When it runs low it usually heats up quick. Glad you caught one.
As I side note, back in July I went to the Deerfield and on my way I passed over one of the bridges crossing the Hoosic in Williamstown. I stopped to take a look and I saw a fisherman's worst night mare. A big fat cormorant diving in the pool below the bridge. I like birds but I hate these things. Several years ago, I watched one in action out in RI at the Weekapaug Breechway and once it zeroed in on a fish, it was dead meat. I can't imagine what one bird alone could do to a trout stream.

There is a pair of BIG blue herons who own the stretch I fish. I can only imagine what they can eat in a week. I suspect ( hope) they probably eat a lot of crayfish and maybe fewer trout. This stretch has a lot and some of them are pretty big. AgMD
