Best all purpose spinner patterns : I have been reading about all purpose patterns such as the Adams and I'm interested in learning what the best all purpose spinner patterns are. According to a few articles I have read, spinners are more attractive to trout because they are easier targets. One pattern to resemble many different may fly spinners that has been suggested via the articles has been the Rusty Spinner. 1. What do you think about spinners being more attractive to trout and if they are easier targets? 2. What patterns and sizes do you suggest for all purpose spinner patterns? JLIBS

Yes, the Rusty Spinner. Not designed to imitate any particular species but to imitate the size and coloration of a number of mayflies.
Sizes preferred are 16 & 18.
The "rusty" aspect is due to the fact that when the spinners begin to fall and die off, their coloration changes to the general rusty color. The are a number of dubbing manufacturers who pre-package this color, or you could mix your own.
If I may also suggest using Organza for the winging material. It has alot of the same properties as the clear/transparent spinner wings and is stiff enough to keep it floating nicely in the film. Wing length = 1.5x the length of the shank/trim to shape.
