haven't been on this forum much with all the fishing to do but since i was back that way this past weekend i figured i throw this report out there.
family biz called me back to western mass this weekend and just in case i got a few minutes away i packed up my gear as well. sunday afternoon i was finally able to scrape up some time to hit the river behind my parents house. i played in this river as a kid and fished the heck out of it with worms and spinning gear and all i ever got was suckers and chubs so i was not expecting much in the way of fish. my primary goal in this excursion was actually to test out my new water skeeters wading boots. they performed very well and do indeed hike comfortably on dry land as well. like i've explained i played in and around this stream for half of my life but this would be the first time exploring it with a fly rod in hand. the river has been significantly reshaped over the past 10 years or so, so it was all new to me. what i discovered was a complete surprise... no trophy trout or monster bass (in fat no bass at all) but every fishy looking hole that i dropped my fly into yielded a barage of hits from fiesty little rainbows. i only hiked about a half mile stretch of this river but it was quite an exciting stretch for someone who hasn't hooked into any trout for some time. the water was extremely clear unlike what i'm used to in maine so i spooked many more trout than i tricked. this was also the first field test of the new olympus 770sw.
a great day!!!
the path from my folks house to the river
anyone know what kind of spider this is? it was ove 6" across... no joke!
my first surprise!
water clarity... (and a fish out of frame, the underwater shots can be tricky)
nice bow on my prince dropper...
a quick pic before release, this one was the biggest of the day
all fish were caught on the beaver meadow with a prince nymph dropped of a black wooly bugger. go figure that the small fish hit the bugger and the bigger ones prefered the prince...
