My drive from the Pittsfield Office to the Springfield Office today took me past Laurel Lake in Lee. There was about a basketball court size patch of open water at the boat ramp, and there were trout jumping like crazy. I stopped to cast for a few minutes (read 1 hour- shh, don't tell my boss!). I hooked but lost 2 browns on a llama, fished below some split shot. No takers on dries or smaller wets. A guy with spinning gear caught a few on a minnow lure. Silver looking brown trout- maybe freshly stocked?
I think they were jumping out of the water after emerging midges. I only saw a few bugs in the air- small midges and one very large stonefly. Nobody missed me at the office.
