For those interested in the Midwest seasonal run(s):
Here are the run numbers as of 10/11 for the Root River in Wisconsin. This is a 9 mile stretch of river from Lake Michigan to an impassable dam.
There is a weir that captures/spawns fish/takes to hatcheries, less than 1.5 miles downstream from the dam.
All salmon and Browns were passed upstream and the Steelhead (the early ones) were taken to the hatchery.
Root River Steelhead Facility Report
DATE: October 11, 2006
RIVER TEMP: 55
Steelhead: 482 Chinook Salmon: 6337 Coho Salmon: 222 Brown Trout: 52
P.S. The King run is still going strong and last year the weir passed only around 2000 Kings due to low water conditions. As you can see from the report there were 6000+ Kings passed upstream to a 1.5 mile stretch of river with a dam at the end.
You should be able to walk on their backs from bank to bank and not get your feet wet.
