Got out to fish for Kings on Saturday.
Fair hooked and released around 20 Kings throughtout the day but mostly between 7 am and 12 noon. The conditions were optimal. The temps dropped at night and the skies remained overcast until about mid-day. The fish moved to the holes when the sun came out and got lock jaw and only managed a few more before I left at 4 pm. Caught alot of hens that were moving up river and staging in pools and hadn't begun to spawn yet and were loaded with eggs.
Caught most fish on large hares ears and hex nymphs and "Bear's Hex" in sz. 6 and 8. I thought for sure they would want the typical big, bright and and ugly flies, but the natural colors in the smaller sizes worked vthe best. I did manage a couple on a purple ESL with an orange head.
Got bored with catching them on nymphs so I decided to try something different by swinging a chartreuse and white marabou spey in front of a large male at a tail out and he ate it on the 2nd drift. Nothing cooler than seeing the take. Finished the day on that note...
