I'd welcome any suggestions for fishing this coming Sunday (I got a pass for Mothers day!) for one of the only days I'll be able to make it to western MA this year. It looks like the Deerfield is coming down so figured I'd try that until they open the Fife Dam and then move on somewhere else for the late morning/afternoon .. suggestions are welcome. Probably like to avoid the masses on the Swift. Certainly don't mind hiking a bit to get some quiet. Was thinking either Westfield or Housatonic (probably the later), but not sure where to go on those .. any spots you might recommend that would give a full afternoons fishing and where I won't be competing with too many others?
Many thanks, David

David,
The westfield east branch C&R section between Chesterfield Gorge and Knightville dam is a good bet this time of year. Park at the Gorge and walk south or at the dam and wlak north- either way, your unlikely to see many people at the beginning of the hike, let alone once you get a half mile or so beyond the gates on the roads. I've driven by the Housatonic C&R in Glendale several times last week and the week before, and there were cars at the pullouts, even with the high water conditions. If it's come down, it might be pretty crowded.

The C&R section in Lee has been pounded real hard. I've been down there a couple of times -- including this afternoon and there has been 5 or 6 people fishing each time. Three cars showed up as I was leaving today. One guy I met today said it was fished real hard over the weekend.
It's really too small a river there for all that activity. Very few access spots so they all draw a crowd and the same water gets fished over and over. I think I'll wait a while before I hit it again. Maybe there will be less of a crowd in a couple of weeks.
