Where is the C&R stretch on the Housatonic? Signs? Parking?
Thanks Dana

DanaC:
From the Rt 20 bridge in Lee to the mill dam on Rt 102.
From the power station on Rt 183 in Stockbridge to the RR trestle down stream of there.
Parking is scarce at either section. A couple of pull-offs and bridges and business parking lots.
River is way hot now with temps in upper 70s, so it's best to try and avoid trout, which probably are in refuges in any case. Smallies are starting to become active and will be more so as river temp goes even higher.

fished in CT. just above the park yesterday afternoon fishing was good until 3:30 then went dead. few guys said it should pick back up between 6 and 8 only caught 1 in that time no hatches going on but a nice brown about 16inches the spots were a little larger and a deep red color. today I stopped in the Glendale section for 35 minutes caught two around 14" and one broke the fly off on a rock.

Reports:
Lee - Water is dangerously low. I can wade accross most everywhere effortlessly in places that would drown me early season. Many smallies about and trout are in the deepest or fastest water (which is not fast at all). The temps are so hot that it's really not fair to the trout to fish for them in my opinion until we get some rain and some cooer temps. I will not go back there for a while.
Glendale - Water is warm, but not as warm as Lee with more pocket water and several places for trout to hide. What were clearly defined seems to fish early on are still seems, but not so abundant. The fish are in the shade and at the bottom of the deeper water below the parking area. I'll go very very early and possibly very late/dark to fish. The water is extremely low and wading is not terribly difficult with some care. The browns are still abundant if you can find them.

Jlibs:
Amen, brother.
The Lee section has been too low and way too hot to justify fishing for trout. I stopped going there a while back to give the fish a break.
Nevertheless, some folks can't resist. Got a call from a friend the other day who said he stopped by to check out the conditions and saw a couple of guys fishing there. They were taking trout. Doubt that those fish will survive.
Said they were from the Eastern end of the state and had heard about the great fishing in the Housy here and wanted to try it.
The C&R program's success could be its downfall.
