Any really good spots for smallmouth in the Deerfield?
I've caught a few in there, as far up as the Parking Lot, but never really gotten into them. I was fishing for trout and got a pleasant surprise. They're a blast on a light rod.
I've heard that the stretch above Sherman is good, also down near rte 91.
Anybody fish for these on purpose?

I've not fished for them on the Deerfield but I would say down river in Charlemont where the water gets slow, deep, and wide might be good.
I've also heard there is good smallmouth fishing on the Millers.

If you mean the stretch above Sherman Reservoir in Vermont, there are no smallmouths there. It's way to cold since the relicensing, it did have smallmouths before they started the 160 feet deep bottom release from HarrimanReservoir. In the Vermont Portions the smallmouth are in the Searsburg Bypass on Somerset Road and route 9 and North Branch of the Deerfield such as in Wilmington Center and as far up as West Dover in the bends by Delar Depot, they are mixed in with trout, rock bass and fallfish.

Fish the river in Shelburn MA down to the mouth of the CT. Tons and tons of smallies. 20-30 fish afternoons easily. Most are 8-13 inches.

It's not the deerfield, but try the Housy anywhere. Certainly some sections hold larger smallies and various species, but you can hook up almost every cast in some sections this time of the year on the Housy.
