Some of us from the club did some Slmon Fry stocking for Mass Wildlife this past Saturday. Dragonma15, his girlfriend Sarah, Ctroy, Jlibs, Fishincane, and I went out to stock Munn Brook and Dickenson Brook. We got assigned to a section of brook in Granville Gorge, about 75+ feet below the road. It was quite a hike (slide?) down. carrying buckets of salmon fry, and tested all of our stamina. It was a beautiful stream though, and we worked together to get ourselves down and out. We followed up (joined by Flymandan) with some fishing at Chesterfield Gorge (which, mercifully, did not require anymore repelling to access).
Some pics:
Salmon fry in the bucket
Dragonma15 hiking down into the gorge. Note the tree strategically positioned to break your fall once you hit the snow covered ice. Ever notice how you don't see felt soles on ice climbers boots?
Fishincane and Jlibs wishing they brought their flyrods
Jlibs, Ctroy, Dragonma, and Sarah dumping fry. Note the slope to the left of the river. That is the way out. The snow/ice covered area is the flattest part of the climb. It weren't easy.
Fishing below Chesterfield Gorge afterwards. Ctroy is making sure Jlibs is doing it right.
No fish caught by anyone. Water was slightly high, gin clear, and (as AgMd would say) "cold as a ditch diggers belt buckle". Saw one stonelfy, about an 18, and lots of cased caddis on the rocks, and many tiny midges, but no trout. In a few weeks those caddis will be hatching and things should be a little different. Despite the perils of the first gorge and the skunking at the second, it was a great day and it was nice to meet some new people and get together as a club. Next time, let's just go fishing.
