So I head out this morning to check out some woodcock covers for returning birds. Didn’t find any. On my way back to the Old Homestead, I pass the Hoosic River, and there in the distance I can just make out this guy standing in the middle casting. So, I pull over, hike down to where he’s fishing, and ask him how he’s doing. I thought for sure I’d be talking to Joe, or some other BFF member. Turns out the gentleman ain’t even local. He’s from Pennsylvania, visiting family (or his wife’s family, I forget which). Apparently, they come up every so often and he loves to fish the Hoosic. He was telling me all about the big browns he catches. He was ecstatic that the fish were wild, and that the river has remained, “a well kept secret.” Rick from Pennsylvania

Dosn't surprise me. I travel 3.5 hours to fish the great river and with good reason. Quality wild trout fishing is not a common thing in the Northeast beyond small native brookies. (Although PA has quite a few good wild brown trout streams) You local guys have one of the best streams in the area in your back yard. I thought it was a "relative" secret until I saw this web page, although I am seeing more and more activity every year. Word is getting out. Is it too late to start posting about chemical spills and fish kills on the H?? ;D
