This is a typical Housatonic Brown Trout - 19 inches, caught on a #18 BWO dry fly and a light (4 weight) rod.

Is that a bamboo rod?

Yes, I do all my trout fishing with bamboo. That's an 8-foot Heddon model #13 (4/5 weight) from about 1940. I've landed quite a few of my largest fish this year on that rod. It's a sensitive dry-fly rod with some backbone. Don't ever let anybody tell you that cane is wimpy or soft!
