My daughter has been really into tying flies, and I've letting her do some. Problem is, she is left handed and instinctively grabs the bobbin with her left hand. I have been having her do things right handed, and she does okay. Do any of you have any experience teaching lefties? Have you had them just tie right handed?

I don't think its going to be much of a problem. Instead of dressing the fly from left to right you will be working from right to left.

Hi Mark,
I am lefty so I have alot of experience with these problems. Have your daughter sit across from you, like a mirror image and she will be going in the same direction as you are.
Hope this helps.

hsweren: What an excellent idea! My son is left hand with everything he does, except tie... I asked him if he wanted me to turn the vise around and he told me no and that he couldn't do it the other way... I write, eat, and drink left handed and do everything else right handed... I'm mixed up...

whatever you do - don't make her tie rt handed - imho
i teach tying to my middle school students and at new england fly tiers monday night lessons - and i'm a lefty. the "sit across from" suggestion works great - on everything except whip finish for some reason...
so i call in a righty for that
if you are in a teaching a class setting - make sure you have a pedestal base - its obviously easier to move from student to student...
