Anybody know how it's been fishing in the Gorge area?

Rex Channel fished the Westfield this past week. I'm not sure if he was at the Gorge, but he said it was fishable despite all of the recent rain fall.

I have been following the flows of most area rivers and the only one that seems to be near normal is the Swift. It might be a ride, but I caught my personal best there yesterday and there was lots of fish action. Also lots of fishermen but what can you do.

Has anyone been to the Deerfield lately? Dare I trust the release schedule?

I've been up to the Deerfield a lot this year. They only screwed me once with the water release so far. There was an awesome ant hatch starting and the rainbows where just starting to go nuts for them when the horns sounded for a second release.
The Deerfield has been great this year though, I would definatly fish it if I was you. The water release usually ends around 2pm and the fish become active around 3pm.

I ended up at the Swift. Loaded with fish and fisherman. I withnessed a lot of fishing but not much catching. The fish are on the spawn and obviously have other thingas on their mind. I did manage to bring to net a decent Brownie (I was a little surprised to discover there are browns in this stretch of the river). As far as the Deerfield goes, my problem is I have over a 2 hour drive each way. This time of year I would have to spend over 4 hrs travel for maybe 2 hours fishing. I may try again next weekend to get out there.

Joe,
Didn't I go to the Deerfield with you for that hatch, and didn't I outfish you? I outfish you so often it's hard to keep track of all of the outings, hatches and locations.
Sorry man.

Joe is the greatest Fly Fisherman to ever walk the Earth. Everytime I fish with Joe he makes me a better fisherman. My only wish in life is to be half as good as he is.

JLIBS Nope, that was when I went with BambooMatt. Don't forget, Josh, I have Administrator rights on the board. And that means I can do cool things like.... well, read your post above this one again and you'll see ... ;D

I fished the Deerfield on Sunday. The water was down until 8:00am both Saturday and Sunday. Fishing was tough but I did manage a few small rainbows. I think the majority of fish that were stocked this fall either didn't survive the deluge or were flushed down stream. One interesting thing I did see was a nice rainbow that was trapped near shore in a small pool of water. The water must have come down quick and caught him off guard. He was still alive and kickin...

Joe, I drove through the Knightsville Basin this afternoon on my way back from Worthington. Spotted a BIG Bear laying down on a knoll. What a beautiful animal. It's always nice to see extra wildlife when fishing. Last year when I was fishing the Westfield I scared a bear right up a tree when we "snuck" up on each other. I don't know who was more scared, me or the bear.
