So, what did everyone get for Christmas? I received a few books ( Thornapples by Charles Fergus, Rivers of Yesterday; A New Brunswick Hunting and Fishing Journal by Mike Parker, and L.L. Bean; The Making of an American Icon by Leon Gorman. I’m especially interested in the Bean book because the Gorman’s get their bird dogs from the same Maine breeder I got Piper from, and I’m curious if they get into the hunting pedigree of L.L. Bean…. Besides the aforementioned, I got some wine, gift certificates to three of my favorite places (L.L. Bean, Orvis, and Jack’s Hot Dog Stand), etc. But, Lisa gave me what is probably the nicest gift I’ve received in many years…. Apparently, she was in cahoots with a couple of friends of mine who are a professional photographer and artist over the past few months, commissioning a portrait of Piper. The photographer friend took a great picture of Piper back in October when we were all in New Brunswick bird hunting, and the artist friend used it as the study for a portrait of Piper. I was totally taken by surprise when I opened the box on Christmas Eve and found the matted and framed work of art. It really is a wonderful gift, and I’m very grateful to Lisa for commissioning my freind (and him accepting!) to render this perfect likeness. It will always hold a place of honor on the wall in my Fortress of Solitude.

Uplander, what a beautifull portrait of Piper. I got a couple of gift cards to one of the local shops. I picked up a Rite Bobbin which I realy like so far, and a book. Modern Fly-Casting Methods by Lefty Kreh. I also caught 2 trout on Christmas day fishing the Lamprey River in NH. Much to my surprise there were at least 12 others that came and whent while I was there, which made the sweet spot (pool) unfishable for me. Funny thing is I got my fish away from the crowd

That's an awesome portrait of Piper! That's one hell of a lineage she comes from.
My wife gave me the Trout Grass DVD and a new fly box.
