I will be en residence at the Old Homestead this coming weekend and, looking at the weather forecast, this just might be the nicest weekend we’ve had all summer -- sunny with low humidity, daytime highs around 75, and evening lows in the 50s….
Piper is out of commission as she’s recovering from being spayed the other day and is under strict Vet orders not to engage in strenuous exercise, run through the forest underbrush, or get wet until healing is completed and sutures are removed later next week.
As a result, I am blissfully free to hereby proclaim this coming weekend, the 12th and 13th of August, as the “Weekend of Shaun” for Anno Domini 2006. A weekend to do what I want, free from time constraints, conflicting obligations, or guilt. No leaving the trout stream as the rises erupt because I have to be home at X o’clock, no feeling guilty because I didn’t take the dog along with me, no nagging feeling of gluttony as I butter and salt up the 12th ear of corn….
This year’s “Weekend of Shaun” is shaping up to include an entire day of trout fishing with my brother, a couple of good dinners, copious amounts of fresh corn on the cob, a couple of bottles of BBC, a little scouting of a couple of potential new partridge and woodcock covers, and probably some good-old-fashioned napping on the couch.
Bring it on!
Umm….now if you’ll all excuse me, I gotta go ask the War Department if it’s OK….
