What are your favorite things about summer in the Berkshires?
Mine are: · fresh veggies · wild blueberries/strawberries/raspberries · fly fishing for brook trout · gossamer sundresses · lightening bugs · late afternoon thunderstorms on a hot, lazy day · fresh corn on the cob · cook outs · sitting outside on the patio at the Freight Yard Pub in the early evening with my chums, watching the condensation run down the pint glasses · the hum of cicadas · riding around with the top down · fog shrouded mountains on a rainy day · driving to the top of Mt. Greylock · watching and listening to the tourists on Spring Street in Williamstown · the view from Stone Hill behind the Clark · hummingbirds · watching the 4th of July fireworks from a ridge on Ragged Mountain · day hikes on the Appalachian Trail · “sweaty” rocks in the trout streams on a hot, humid day · laying back and just watching the inky black night sky

Shaun:
You are as eloquent as ever. Have you ever considered putting your thoughts on paper, in book form? Its an interesting idea. I'm a member of the Wisconsin fly fishing board which has several thousand members and a large number of them got together and had a book published with the same type of commentaries on fly fishing, their outdoors experiences and memories, etc... Its a really nice piece of work and sold quite a lot of copies. It might be something for us to consider for our board members at some point...
I will say that miss the "inky black skies at night". When you are as close to a major metropolitan area like I am, the sky never really gets dark enough to see the stars that I used to love gazing up at when I was a kid in the Berkshires.
The closest I've come lately was in Canada last September when I even got to see the Northern Lights. What a treat that was...
Best Regards,
Mark

Thanks for the kind words Mark. I’ve toyed with the idea, but never get too far along. It would be a true “vanity press” work I’m afraid…. ;D

The Frieght Yard Pub is close to downtown North Adams. A nice place to dine. ;D
Mark said it right, good job Shaun!
I like how clear the stars are from Savoy the moon rise over Route 116 and 8a
a thick caddis hatch on the hoosic
being the first canoe on the lake and having the fog slowly rising off the glass like water
the smell of the fall leafs
driving in a thick snow storm
a stream side fire on the Deerfield in the winter time
