I am sick and tired of paying for the “essentials” of modern life. Cable, cell phone, TV dish, Internet, TiVo, satellite radio, OnStar, etc. the list of stuff you can sign up for keeps growing and goes on and on and on….
Think back on it. My parents, and probably your parents, never had to shell out for Internet service, cable TV, cell phones, and now satellite radio. You had to pay for your mortgage, your car, your food, your utilities, some medical, and some clothes.. Nowadays we’re barraged with all these services that nickel and dime us to death. No wonder people work longer hours, stress more over money, and in general have a harder time making ends meet nowadays.
Now, of course none of the above are true “essentials” of living, but they are costs that most of us pay at least some of on a monthly basis that, only a short few years ago, did not exist. And, while they may not be “essentials,” just try living without an Internet connection in this day and age…. It won’t be long before paying your bills on the Internet will be the only way to pay, or, you’ll have to pay a “processing” fee for mailing in a check in the alternative. Hell, some banks already do charge you a fee if you use a teller for certain transactions instead of “on-line banking.”
Don’t get me wrong, I’m pleased with the services I receive in the modern world, just vexed with the endless trickle of bills they result in. No individual bill is a killer, but add them all up every month and all those minor bills bundle into a hefty chunk of change!
Just added Netflix to the mix. There’s another $18.89 a month….
Apply pressure to the wound, he’s hemorrhaging!
