Often times I think that my trout fishing and partridge hunting are simply incidental to actually being in the forest. They say solitude’s a precious thing, and I know no better place to find it than deep in the mountains and forests of the Berkshires.
After a long, cold, barren winter, it does my soul wonders to walk the sodden ground, smell the musty scents of thawing soil, and see the first of the green return.
I love all the life of the forest, but this time of year certain plants truly reinforce the knowledge that another winter has come to an end, and that summer awaits.
My favorites: · Trout Lily · Bloodroot · Trillium · Ladyslippers · Jack In The Pulpit
What are your favorite Berkshire woodland plants?
