Joe,
You had asked for a report on the BBC tour....
Took the tour on Saturday. It was about an hour and a half. Free. There were about 15 people who showed up for the tour, but the “guide” said that normally there is only a half a dozen or so. You get a good-sized cup of beer at the onset, and then another halfway through the tour. A good selection to choose from. I had the “Holidale,” which is their Christmas beer. I bought a bottle of it back in December, and it was quite good, so I wanted to have it again. My second beer was a stout, but not the regular stout for sale to the public. Apparently the brewery got a hold of a big bourbon cask and put the stout in that at some point in the brewing process. Man, that was a wicked good beer!
During the tour they take you through the brewing process from start to finish, opening the big vats for you to look inside, explaining everything, answering any questions, showing you the bottling process, etc. I was interested to find out that they have gone to a bottling machine for the bottles, but that the kegs and 64oz growlers (my favorite) are still washed and bottled by hand.
At any rate, if you have a dreary Saturday afternoon to kill, I recommend the Berkshire Brewing Company tour.
