So here's how this works. I start off with a question, some one answers it, and then posts a different question after that, etc... etc...
What is the shortest cast you have had to make to successfully catch a fish?

About 6 inches, and this has happened to me twice. Once about 2 years ago in the Treet Cleaner basin of the Hoosic I had a small brownie right behind my leg, eating the caddis falling off my waders.
The second time was just a few days ago, again in the Treet Cleaners Basin. I was pulling my streamer out of the water to check it and I had a 8 " Large Mouth Bass take the streamer right next to my leg.
What was the best day you have ever had on the water?

When I was 19 or 20 I was fishing a river out west and it happened to be next to a womens nudest retreat. I didn't catch any fish, but there where a few ladies down by the river that seemed quite interested in the sport. What's your favorite book/books on fly fishing?

I can’t choose just one book. I’d have to say I equally enjoy “Trout Madness” and “Trout Magic” by Robert Traver, “Vermont River,” “Upland Stream,” and “One River More” by W.D. Wetherell, “The Last Pool Upstream and Down and Big Stony” by Howard Walden, and “A River Runs Through It” By Norman Maclean. As you can tell, I'm not a big one for "how to" books....
First fly fishing experience I remember? When I was a kid I picked up my father’s old Shakespeare rod with Pflueger reel he bought when he was a young man, and went out and whipped the water to a froth. I was hooked.
Dream destination would be a backwoods stream in Yellowstone.
Question: Do you tie your own flies?

I didn't even mention "Trout Bum" or anything by John Gierach or "Remembrances of Rivers Past" by Ernest Schwiebert or "The Compleat Angler"
I tie all of my own flies. If I buy any it's usually from Orvis and I'll get it if it's a pattern I've never seen or something very complicated.
If you could fish with any historical figure, who would it be? Presidents, poets, etc...

Ray Bergman's "Trout". It was the bible 50 years ago and for my money, still is.
