I got a copy of Trout Grass the movie on DVD for Christmas and it was awesome. Anyone else watch it, or would like to watch it?

Joe:
Was looking around the videos in the library down here and saw DVD of Trout Grass. Picked it up and brought it home.
Pretty interesting stuff, particularly the process of cutting and sorting of the cane.
What really surprised me was all the automated machining procedures the rod makers were using. I expected more hand work. Guess when it's a busines you need that.

always down for a good flic! what's it about (i know fishing... but beyond that ) It's a documentary about Tonkin Cane and Bamboo rods. Very well shot and has a great story. If anyone around here wants to borrow my copy just drop me an email. Charley, I was under the same assumption also about the Rod smiths. Maybe our resident "Boo Boys" can enlighten us on the benefits of hand planing vs. machine made.

I watched Trout Grass with two other BCFF members last night over a few beers and some pizza. -Nice to watch in an evening.
The story and background on bamboo was amazing and the filming and script were very professional and enlightening. However, the rod building piece was extremely dissapointing. It was all automated with machines. They talked about taking time to do it right, but then they showed all machines. -Very contradicting approach. Hoagie Carmichael (spelling) was there talking and Tom Mcguane (spelling) was there too and these two guys are as back to basics as we get for the sport. I feel strongly that the film should have honed in on the basics and traditionalism, which is what boo is all about. I suggest seeing the film for the info.
What does everyone else think?
