The tru-oil gun stock finish arrived in the post and I've been giving it a try and I must say... its looking pretty good. I've got 4 coats on and it has been a much easier/cleaner/less prone to screw-ups process. The quick drying time means I'm not worrying about dust, dog hair, my hair, etc getting stuck to it... which has made life a lot easier. I'll finish the remaining coats over the next couple of days and might be able to bring it to the meeting for review.

So that stuff worked out pretty well... I did 10 coats and it went on easily with a rag. I did the reel seat and grip last night... I try to remember to bring it to the meeting tomorrow so y'all can check it out.
I'm curious how it will hold up when out fishing for a year... we shall see.

Joshua,
Glad to hear the TruOil is working out for you. I don't think I'll switch back to dipping in varnish. It should hold up pretty good seeing that it has been used for years on gun stocks. Also there are quite a few other builders that have been using it for a while.
I haven't been to one of your meetings yet but I am hoping to make the one tomorrow night.
Jim
