Josh has asked me to assist with the moderating on the building repair board, and I feel honored to help in any way I can. While I have built a few graphite fly and spin rods, and refinished a few bamboo rods, I consider myself to be but an aprentice, just staritng out on what I hope will be a long journey of rod building. There is much I haven't learned yet, but I do believe that I can say with certainty -- There are many ways to acomplish any given aspect of rod building, -- and there is always a better way that I haven't learned yet. I hope that this forum will give us a place where we can share our successes and failures. Now that fishin' is starting to get good, all of us will be spending more time on stream, and less time at the rod bench ( if the waters ever go down). Still , it is a good time to start thinking about the next rod project. AgMD

And here is a good way to get some action on this area of the forum:
I just bought a ratty old 3/2 9ft bamboo for $40 on ebay with the intention of turning it into a 6' 2/2... This will be my first real build out project - so I'll be asking lots of questions and taking lots of pictures.
In the meantime - I'm shopping for reel seats, cork, guides, etc... Golden Witch has great stuff but kinda pricey - anyone have any other good sources for inexpensive but quality components?

Found these folks while poking around the web. Just ordered some ferrules and guides. You might look here as prices seemed rather reasonable as compared to Golden Witch and some others.
