Preparing for an Alaskan Fishing Adventure: A Beginner’s Guide
Nov. 19th 6:30pm in Pittsfield. Directions are on the home page of our website www.berkshireflyfishing.org/index2.html
Presented by Pioneer Valley Trout Unlimited Board Member and former TU president, Ed Bauchiero
Sure, everybody’s heard that Alaska is the ultimate sportsman’s paradise. But many anglers are overwhelmed at the idea of venturing into this unknown wilderness. Intimidated by looking at Alaska as a fishing destination? How do I get there? What will it really cost? Do I need special equipment? How do I pick a reputable lodge? Is the fishing worth the time, effort and expense?
The presentation will focus on these issues, shared by an angler who extensively researched Alaska before traveling there for the first time last year. Learn from his successes and mistakes! The audience will receive a copy of a realistic trip planning checklist along with a list of questions to ask any lodge before committing to a trip. A slide show will show the results of fishing for 11 different species of fish during a single week.
Ed Bauchiero has served on the Board of Directors for the Pioneer Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited for the past 18 years, and is a past president of that TU Chapter. In addition to fishing Alaska, he has explored remote fishing in British Columbia, Montana, Idaho, Yellowstone Park, and the Rangeley Lakes area of Maine without getting himself into too much trouble.
This November presentation will be a terrific follow up to the October presentation by Jack Smola focused on fly fishing Western US rivers and international rivers. I've seen Ed's presentation and it's not to be missed!
