Up here in northern Berkshire County, there has been fishable "hard water" since early December. (The earliest that I've ever seen).
I've gone out about 4 times so far. The first two - - in early to mid December - - I did reasonably well by my standards - - some nice perch and large mouth bass. The last two times, by contrast, were disappointing (a few tip ups, but no fish).
In nothern Berkshire County, there is a good 6+ inches of ice on the bodies of water (Cheshire Lake and Greylock Glen) that I've been on. From what I've heard from others, though, there's far less (2 to 4 inches) on Pontoosuc and Onota in Pittsfield. I don't know about further south (Buel, etc.), but assume there's as much if not more ice down there as there is in north County.

Fished Buel 3 times this season since mid-december
6 Inches of Ice on buel. ATVS were on it sunday. Iced pickeral all day on sunday. Had some trout early in the season.
Also saw a wild brown that was nabbed from buel too which was quite a surprise.
