Now that winter is upon us, rod building season is here.
This is a 9' Monty Spinner 3/1 in good shape. Ferrules - good , seat- good, grip- good. There was a repair wrap 2 1/2 inches bellow the tip, which I removed for inspection. The tip had been cracked and was re glued. I believe an invisible wrap is all that is needed here. There is also a long split in the lower section of the tip which has been re glued w/ some short wraps and should also have an invisible wrap. Except for this and some surface rust on the guides I believe this rod could be fished as is. The varnish is really quite good, but I would probably strip it all, reset the ferrules, clean and re blue the guides and do it all properly. One of the snakes was replaced w/ a chrome guide ( ) but I have a proper replacement and will throw it in.
My guess is that this will throw a 6 wt , but that is just a guess. Definitely a nice trout rod. The owner is asking for $60.
If you have been thinking about getting into cane this is a good rod to start with. Beyond the purchase price the only investment needed is the cost of thread, varnish and some cold blue solution. Not a bad deal. " But that is not all" It also comes w/ a Martin Automatic reel and an enameled Nylon line, neither of which has any value but they are part of the deal.
Naturally I will be willing to advise and help anyone who would like to rebuild this , or any other rod.
I will bring the rod to the meeting on the 19th for your inspection. I am selling this for a friend and have no financial interest in it.
