I will be staying in the Mount Washington/Great Barrington, MA area the weekend of 10/27/07. Is there any fishing nearby? Fly shops to contact? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

JR,
Welcome to BCFF. I'm not sure if you've been following the weather around here, but we have not had rain in a very, very long time and our rivers are a trickle in most places. The good thing is that the water temps are not as hot as they have been. Your best bet now would be a drive from Great Barrington. I'd consider the Deerfield since they have controled water flows from the dam release or I'd head south in CT to the Farmington for quality fishing.
Jack Smola (860) 763-1856, Walt Geryk (http://www.neffguide.com/) and Fred Jeans (http://www.selectiveangler.com/) are guides that cover those waters and are quite reputable. Jack will be a guest speaker for our club in 2-weeks 10/16 and Walt will speak in December on the 12th. Fred presented to us last year.
As for fly shops, you'll have some in Northampton, Westfield and down in CT on the Farmington, but none right here in GB anymore. I'd focus on midges and tiny BWO's.
I hope this gets you started.
