Hi all! New to the site and will be new to fishing the Deerfield and Cold this July. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to pass along any info regarding fly patterns or hatch time tables for the area. I am used to fishing on small streams for native (read spooky) browns so any tips for the bigger water would be very welcome also.
Thanks in advance!

In July the best fishing will be early morning or right when the water drops after a release from Fife brook Dam. www.h2oline.com/255123.aspis the link to the hotline. It usually takes 2-1/2 hours or so for the released water to reach the Cold River pool. My experience in general is that the hatches on the Deerfield come off later in the year than on rivers to the south. For example I've had the best Hendrickson activity in mid-May and have seen them on Memorial Day more than once. Best fishing in general is on cloudy or klight rainy days in June (IMHO.) Always carry caddis in small, smaller, tiny and bleeping-impossible-to-tie sizes. And don't be afraid to tie on something huge once in a while. I've caught trout on Stimulators in the C&R stretch. Spinner falls at dusk can be great. Walking out in the dark is not so great. Good flashlights are not a luxury. And you *will* break off your fly right when it's getting dark and the fish are active.
