First I would like to thank Joe Overlock for what he has put together here. Without his vision BCFF wouldn't be where it is today.
This weekend I decided to head off on my own to explore new ventures in life. One of them being College. I have been in and outta school for the past three years and haven't really gotten what I want out of education. I applied to a fisheries biology / aquaculture program to move onto a more structured education. To learn about what I love.
When I left the Island on Thursday, I knew That I would be driving into some messy weather in the days ahead. I tried to keep my focus on my goals and not let the weather get me down. I got up to the Berkshires after catching a couple trout on my way up on the Housy in CT. The Cornwall TMA is impressive.
I gave JLIBS a call on Friday afternoon after my interview for the fisheries program, to see if he was down to fish some. He had informed me that a couple of the guys were getting together Saturday morning to fish and I was welcome to come. Saturday came, and I was on my way. I hit the river with Dean, Josh, and Jim. We had a few come and go as the day passed. I really did like that guy who was smoking that pipe as he fished, it looked really classic. We all picked up fish immediately. I learned alot, especially alot relative to nymphing. After the day was over I went home beat just like the rest of us. Hot shower, Sleep, and to the next day. Josh and I Headed back out again the next morning and had a Helluva day. I'll leave it at that.
My expression of gratitude goes out not just to the men I fished with this weekend, but to this organization as a whole. We all do our own part. Which is what makes us great. What I really find amazing is how strangers can come together as friends to enjoy something so surreal. When you are out there on the water, freezing cold, raining, and nailing fish. You say to yourself, This is why I do this. Not just for the fish, the fishing, or the sport; But for everything that has been associated. That is what I have found in Fly-fishing.
