the season for open water fishing starts this sunday april first. ;D i'm pretty darned excited. i think i'll be hitting the inlets and any other ice free water on and around sebago lake. the smelt runs should make for some good landlocked salmon fishing in those areas.
anyone heading this direction for season opening? there's ususally a ton of folks from away in the rangeley area early in the season.
it will be nice just to be able to hit my "secret" little spots again to see who hung around. as fun as it would be to have open season year 'round like mass, it's kind of fun to go back to old haunts that have had no pressure for the better part of six months.

It's nice to be back in mass where there is no closed season and more than one real trout stream. Opening day in Rhode Island- where there are seemingly no secret spots- was always a zoo. It coincided with the beginning of April school vacation, and the streamsides were lined with lawn chair sitting, power bait using, trash leaving, more-than-the limit keeping yahoos, accompanied by their kids who would throw stuff in the water while you fished. Fortunately, by the end of the first day, most of these guys had enough to fill their freezers and wouldn't be back until next opening day, returning to more typical Rhode Islander activities such as driving poorly, eating stuffies, and never leaving your hometown. At least there were the stripers ;D

I guess I was a little harsh. Still, no excuse for littering and hiding a cooler full of fish in your truck toolbox in an effort to keep beyond the limit. I'm sure it happens elsewhere, but with such limited resources, it was more easy to encounter in Rhode Island.

Sounds like the Chinook runs in the Fall in Southeast Wisconsin...
I hope to fish Maine someday...
