Thank you to the 20 or so people that came out last night! It was a great time to see some familiar faces and to meet some new members. It was also a great experience to cast and get a feel for all of the different bamboo rods you brought (some old and previously owned by fathers and even grandfathers, some restored, some made by our members, some ebay specials too, etc.) and learn of the making process and to understand the history. -A special thanks to new member Dan who brought his great antique reel collection for show and tell as well. If anyone was interested in the manufacturer of the non-boo rod I brought (7' 2-weight), look at www.elkhornflyrods.comIf anyone is interested in meeting in a central place periodically for fly tying, let me know. I'd be interested. See you in April (or on the water sooner). JLIBS

It was nice to meet everyone and to cast those rods. I would be interested in meeting and doing some tying, perhaps in lieu of a meeting in March. I have free access to a conference/training room in Downtown Pittsfield that we could use for a central location. As an added bonus, it's right upstairs from a brew pub! Suggest some dates and we can set something up.

I reserved the room in Pittsfield from 5pm until whenever. I have actually been in contact with Joe about using this room for a the gerneral meeting location, so there should be directions posted soon. If not I'll get them to whoever wants to show up and tie. We could order pizza or tie for awhile and go downstairs for a bite. Anyone else who is interested, post a reply. If there are any new tiers (or old tiers) who are interested in specific patterns or techniques, post here and I'll try to make sure I'm prepared with materials and patterns. If not, we can just tie what we want.

Dan, I thought that was you over on Clarks Board. If only we had known you were interested in a Prince. I had my brand new ( to me) Prince w/ me that night. First time to put a line on it. A 5 wt DT 333 line worked wonderfully. When the weather warms up a bit I think I will do some more experimenting. I have a 6 wt DT silk that seems like a 5 1/2 as compared to the 333 plastic lines. It will be interesting to see. Whoever told you we were just joking was just trying to get you to let your guard down. Please, if you should happen to have a Bougle, DO NOT TELL ME-- DO NOT LET ME SEE IT!!! I can only resist just so much temptation. AgMD

Dan,
I made a small 1 piece bamboo rod that I keep on my desk at work with reel and line on it. It's the perfect size for a jig rod. At work we all refer to it as the "On Hold Rod". When your on-hold during a phone conversation you can cast away.
Even though it's only about 2 feet long It can cast nicely to about 40 feet and I'm sure it could handle a good size fish.
