Well boys and girls, Joe has been working his buns off trying to find a meeting place that is more or less central to the county. Right now it looks like the closest we can come up with is Stockbridge. I think we can all agree that a drive to the other end of the county is a big disincentive, and it doesn't matter if you have to drive north or south. We NEED a spot in the middle. So -- one of us must have an inside track to a firehouse, parish hall, etc. in the mid county area. Someone must know of a brother, cousin, co-worker, somebody who can open some doors for us. Lots of Vol. Fire Depts. will let out the hall for free to public service groups like us. Even if we had to pay a nominal fee, --- we can hold a 50/50 or something. The members of this club are too resourceful to let this pass. AgMD

Any suggestions would help. I'm really hitting a wall when it comes to good meeting rooms in Pittsfield.
Another alternative is we find a wealthy fly fisher that wants to build us a club house with casting ponds and private stream in which we'll name the building after him. (email me if this is an option)

Stockbridge Sportsmens Club on Rt. 102. I know they rent the clubhouse for weddings, etc., as they close the skeet fields when there is a function at the clubhouse.
I used to be a member but am not now. I believe Josh Lieberman is currently a member.

Stockbridge ain’t central. If you’re looking to be all inclusive, it really has to be Pittsfield….
How about the Berkshire Athenaeum? They must have a room that could be used….

Called them, they want $75 a night for non-profits and $200 for those that can't produce a letter of non-profit.
The reason Stockbridge was mentioned is because we're getting a good working relationship with the Stockbridge Sportsman's Club and their facilities are perfect. The reason I haven't scheduled anything there is just for that reason, to far South.

How about The Old Forge in Pittsfield/Lanesborough (on route7)?
They have good food, a private room downstairs, and a great beer selection.

Dear AgMD,
I'm pleased to see another member other than Joe reaching out by starting this particular post. Typically, we would see a post like this come from Joe. I know that you have been an active member and a great contributor for a long time and I know personally, that I have learned a lot from you as one of our resident experts. Thank you sincerely.
Our great and fearless leader, Joe Overlock, rules this kingdom with a tight rope in strict dictatorship fashion. Joe Overlock = Hugo Chavez. Rumors on the street are that Joe and Hugo co-chair a social and political club where they discuss excerpts from Das Kapital and other Marxist books. Their meeting locations are kept a secret for safety. Hopefully oil prices will come down further in the Berkshires as a result.
As we have all discussed before many times, our fly fishing club is what we make it and Joe does take on an incredible amount of work himself. Joe likes to take it all upon him self for some reason. It would be easier for Joe and beneficial for the club if more day-to-day tasks such as finding a suitable mid-county hall for meetings, looking for guest speakers, creating club outings, etc. were delegated on a regular basis.
With that said, I will continue looking at more mid-county locations for the club. Joe, now is your chance to reach out.
JLIBS

We are so fortunate to have Joe. Every organization needs leadership, and we have benefited from Joe's leadership, drive and vision. But every organization also needs an active membership. And that membership also needs to provide drive and vision. This is one of those times. It is a matter of simple math, the more members we have working on a meeting place, the more ideas , contacts and options we will have . This is an issue which depends on the extensive resources that our members can tap. There have to be any number of church basements, VFW halls, public buildings, gin mills, firehouses, etc. in the middle of the county. Given our extensive membership, with an incredible spectrum of contacts and interests, it just stands to reason that one of us has got to have the inside track on a central place to meet. So , it comes down to an opportunity for each of us to take the initiative. Let us all do some searching. Talk to the folks we work with, our families, neighbors, etc. All we need is one good idea, and every one of us is resourceful enough to come up with it. AgMD

Old Forge sounds good. I left them a message and I'm waiting for a call back. Is this to far North for you South County guys?

I don't know about them, Joe, but it is way too far West for us East Coast guys... ;D I would have an easier time finding a good place out that way. We have the TU Council meetings outside of Boston and it seems like every restaurant, hotel, and bar has a sign outside of it saying "meeting space available".

I'm willing to make the drive, but Old Forge is definitely North County and not in the middle for many of us. Let's keep looking more in the middle of Pittsfield.
