Anyone know a good safe spot to wade on the Connecticut River for Smallmouth? I've tried around the King's Island Boat ramp, in Enfield CT but maybe should wait until July/August. There are some HUGE smallmouth in there. I've fished the Stripers around that area with some success. I'm looking for maybe a sandbar, shoal, island, whatever that can be accessed either by foot or by Kayak without too much intensity in the current. I have a lot of respect for this river. It is very powerful and some spots are more dangerous than they appear. I just wanna toss a few clousers around in the evenings. ... thanks!

I fish in Barton's cove and above (Turners Falls, MA) from a kay ak. It is above the Turners Falls Dam so the water is generally calm and easy paddling. There is a public boat launch, and the associated power boats that come with it. Go off to the left and it is pretty shallow and weedy so fewere powerboats. There are also some nice areas within easy paddling distance if you go upriver about 1/2 mile.
