What is the good word? Has anyone been up to the Salmon River this year? Updates, suggestions??
Joe and I are headed up there this weekend rain or shine. I hope shine! After this weekend, ask Joe if my fish netting skills have improved since last years outing.

Was there last weekend. Lot's of fish in the water. There was an early push of steelhead so if that's what you want to target go with drifting a pink egg pattern. If you want king's then anything on a hook should work.....
Looks like the water is going to be high so be careful wading.

I've heard that with the higher water (water release and rain), that the fish are moving in the river and they are all over the river - Kings, Coho's and some Steelies (as you indicated). I'm excited to hook into some big ones.
Has anyone else been up there this year or heard any reports?

Did some checking of the Great Lakes reports and the fish are in pretty thick in the Salmon (and so are the snaggers). You should be getting into them pretty good.
Water is up, but that will only bring in more fresh fish.
If you spot any fresh ones, go big, and be agressive. They just came off feeding on forage fish in the big pond(s).

Those bunny hair leeches are pretty big. 1/0 hook and a 2x tail. This should be a good trip.
I'm bringing my vise and some materials with me so I can tie some more up there. The one thing I didn't tie this year are Stoneflies.

Does anyone have any recommendations as to where to stay and good local haunts for beer and such? Was thinking of going up and checking it out. I have never been so any help would be appreciated.

JLibs and I usually camp on a friend's land up there. We havn't gone up there later then October though. I think FishinCane stays at the Portly Angler when he goes Steelheading. Don't quote me but I think it's only $25 a night there. I drive by the place all the time and it looks nice.
As for bars, I only know of 2. There's one in Altmont by the Lower Fly Zone that has descent food and beer. Then there's one in Pulaski by Whitakers, havn't been there yet. I'm sute there are some more in downtown Pulaski though.

I'm actually heading up end of day today staying until Sunday. There are lots of places to stay in Pulaski/Altmar area and after October usually always have vacancy. Portly is a nice place about $65 a night.
