Over here in Europe and in the UK, Carp are where it's at! I went into a fishing shop in Holland two weeks ago that was geared 100% towards carp. They have carp tournaments here with $1,000,000 prizes.
Has anyone been targeting these ugly monsters with the fly rod? I've tried but struck out. The fight on a spinning rod is unbelievable!
I can find them, but what's the trick to entice them?

I remember Field and Stream publishing an article about an annual carp fishing tournament in, I believe, Idaho. The tourney was fly fishing - top water ONLY! I read the article out of curiosity not interest so I don't remember many specifics. I do remember that there were several tips for bringing these fish to the surface. Before reading the article I didn't even know carp would rise for a fly, I thought of them as bottom feeders only. Maybe the website has an archive, or one of our members subscribes and saves back issues?

Hey Kieth, do you know around when the that issue was published. I've got a pretty good collection of Field & Stream.

There has been several articles in F&S over the past few years relative to carp fishing. I too typically skim them as they ain’t my forte….
If you’re on the “Continent,” I suppose it’s worth your while to give carp a whirl. But, if you’re in the UK, you should be Hell-bent on reserving some time on a trout river. Fly fishing for trout on one of England’s great trout rivers is not to be missed, especially for carp….
