I just received word that a meeting for public input on the proposed stocking of the Battenkill has been scheduled. Thurs Aug 17 5-->7 PM St. Margaret Mary parish Hall Historic Rt 7A Arlington This is the modern looking church just north of the intersection of Rt 313 and on the East side of Rt 7A. Head up new Rt7, get off at the Arlington exit, follow the connector west until the end. Turn right ( north) on 7A. Drive through downtown Arlington. Rt 313 will be on your left and the church will be just beyond the 313 intersection and on your right. It would be a feather in our collective caps if we could make a good showing here. More importantly , It is a real opportunity for us to make sure that the voice of the sportsman is heard in the management of our sport. AgMD

Thanks for the info on this meeting. It's important to note that this meeting is not THE meeting that the state will hold to allow people to air their views on stocking. This meeting is being hosted by a Bennington County organization whose name I cannot remember - I believe it is a regional commission that looks at issues such as development. One of the employees of the organizaton is a TU member and convinced his boss that this issue has significant value to the area so the meeting has been organized. I believe Ken Cox will be in attendence - he is the biologist who has been working on the 'kill ... a very decent person who stuck is in the middle of a situation where leadership from above is lacking. As urged - if you can go please do so and have your voice heard. It will be a good venue to learn what the "pro stocking" crowd is thinking and hopefully get a sense of where the state is leaning - so we can be sure they are leaning in the right direction!!!! Additionally, the SW Vt TU chapter is working to bring Bob Bachman up from Pa to share his views regarding wild vs stocked trout and how they interact. Dr. Bachman is an authority in this area and has done much valuable field work and has some compelling video of how wild and stocked trout - to the detriment of both! The date for this meeting has not been firmly established but it will be within the time frame of August 23rd and September 6th. I will advise this group of the firm date and venue as soon as possible. Dr. Bachman has noted his keen interest in presenting, it's just ironing out the specific date. Finally, our TU chapter will be posting rough plans for the Twin Rivers Farm habitat restoration project on our website over the weekend. You will be able to see the impressive scope of this project . Check it out. Our website is www.tuswvt.orgFinally, finally (really); tricos have made their appearance on the 'kill and fish are being caught. You only have a month and a half or so to get in on this action so don't delay ... get your #22 spinners and 7x tippet material and join in on the opportunity to be humiliated by 8 inch brook trout that snub their noses at the best tied flies. Seriously, this can be fantastic fishing, though humbling at times. Thanks very much for allowing us Battenkillers to rant here and for the support we have received. It's appreciated. See you on the river! Doug
