Hi there,
Just joined the site. I will be in Williamstown next week and was hoping to get out on the water for a few days. The last time I was there I scouted out a few places. One was the green as it ran along route 43. looked fishy but I didn't have a rod. I know the hoosic is supposed to be very nice but i don't know about any access sites.
thanks any info would be appreciated. -mark

Welcome! ;D The Green River in Williamstown is stocked in the spring time and once in the fall. From Green River Farms to the Hoosic it's stocked and there are a few hold over trout scattered here and there. But upstream from Green River Farm there are some excellent Brook Trout hiding under the rocks. Be sure to check the water temp before targeting them though, don't want to stress them out to much. Access is pretty rough and you do have to hike in some spots. I'd advise purchasing a good Topo map. The Hoosic has been pretty rough for the last few years. The basin across from Chantilly Ave in North Adams (the Treet Cleaners Basin) is easily accessible but wear metal cleats if you own a pair, the rocks are very slippery. Linear Park is also another favorite spot of mine. It's where the Green River dumps into the Hoosic and has some nice holes to fish. It's a short walk to the river and is well worth a try at sunset. You can access it from Linear Park Road off of Route 8. www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country=US&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&addtohistory=&cat=&address=&city=Williamstown&state=MA&zipcode=

fished linear park this am. very pretty water.
every midge pattern was hit several times on each drift by something very small. they were very small brookies? I haven't got a clue. due to the heat today was more about exploring and getting back in touch with a 4wt, not an easy thing to do after swinging a 9wt since May!

Saw a few fly rods working the Green River just north of the Farm along 43 about a week ago. Is this a good stretch, or is it played out until the cooler weather arrives?

That whole section is pretty good. Anything upstream of the farm is good clean water.

The section from starting at Green River Farms and ending at the Hoosic River had lots of good holes but not a lot of natural fish. It offers some great fishing for hold overs though and a few more survivors from the stocking.
