I was wondering what the water temps are like out in the Berkshires. Here in eastern MA I fished the Ipswich River last Sunday. It's a stretch with faster water than most places around here and the temps were around 74 degrees on average so I didn't fish for long. This week I hit the reservoir in my town a few times for the small/ SMB etc. When I got there today (8 am) a bait guy was leaving with a 5 lb LMB on a stringer smoking a cigar and drinking a beer! He said he caught it around 5:15 am. It killed me to see him take it but it's his right. I just hope he kept it cool until he could get it home. I hope to get out to the Berkshires before the gas prices go up any higher. I figure as it is, i'm looking at $65-$75 for gas plus tolls

How lucky are we that we live in a age where we can buy gas for $3.00 a gallon. Our forfathers never had it this good!
The Deerfield is always cold, the Hoosic will be cool on an overcast day. I'm not sure about the Housy though, the South County guys can better answer that one.

I think if I look at your house when I'm out there I can write the trip off as a business trip! ;D ;D ;D

""The Deerfield is always cold""
Joe, WADR, I've measured temps on the Deerfield at the Hoosac Tunnel at 75 degrees in the past. The reservoirs are fairly shallow, not like Quabbin which releases from 100 plus feet down.

It's one of our coldest streams around here. Nothing like the Quabbin though. Steve, Come on up! I rent though....
