The board has not been very active.
I'm sure there are some trout being caught in the Berkshires. Come guys, let have the reports...

FishinCane:
Are they taking streamer, nymphs or dries?
I ask because in my opinion there nothing like watch a trout eat a dry fly and hope to get into it heavy in June.
I don't know if Joe mentioned it but I'll be in town starting 6/8, maybe you can join us. My visit is strictly for fishing and I'll be out with Joe when he can make it between 6/8 and 6/11 and be solo when he can't. Maybe you can show me some of the advantages of bamboo. I have limited experience with it. I think my casting stroke is too quick to really enjoy the experience of casting it.
I would have sent you a PM but couldn't see how I could contact you. You can respond to me at fishes-with-fly@comcast.net if you want to talk via. mail.
Best Regards,

Would have had a report on the Housatonic in Lee this afternoon, but when I got to the river I discovered that I had packed everything except my wading boots. Can't very well wade in stocking-foot waders.
I'll try again later in the week.

Mark,
This early in the season there isn't much dry fly activity on the Deerfield. Right now the best options are streamers and nymphs. I've been having luck with a small wooly bugger's and very small copper john's (size 18-20). As the days get warmer there will be a lot of dry fly activity. When you are here the caddis and sulphers will be in full force. We will definately have to get together and fish.

I haven't had any free time to fish. I'm hoping to have some pictures from the Clarksburg Elementary School Fly Fishing Classes we're teaching to post for you guys next week. The kids had a blast on Friday with their first class.

Hit the Deerfield for a while saturday, not many bugs, saw one good rise, no dice with assorted dries. Weather said 8-12 mph winds, had gusts that had to be 30 or so. Lotsa blackflies when the wind let up. Pleased to report that BBC River Ale is still pretty dam good ;-)

Fished the Hoosic in N Pownal sun afternoon. Hit the river just as a nice hatch of caddis was dying off. I think an elkhair caddis in about size 16 would have been the ticket, but naturally I had nothing of the sort. Naturals on the surface were unmolested, but the fish were following the emergers in nice splashy rises. I tied on a 16 light cahill wet fly and worked it accross and down, twitching it in 6 or 8 inch pulls. Caught 7 lost 1. one was in the 16 inch class. Lot s of fun on the 7' Orvis. AgMD

I fished the Housy in Sheffield where Browns hang out over the weekend. Unfortunately, no Browns to report this outing. However, I caught several 10' Dace on my bead head prince nymphs i casted up and across with a strike indicator.
A neat thing happened to my friend who was fishing with me about 10' away. He was landing a Dace which was dangling on the line right at his feet in 1 foot of water when a 2.5 foot long Pike came out of the darkness behind a downed tree and gulped the entire Dace down its throat and swam off.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? What a predator!

Had a huge Brown chase a small one that I hooked and eventually mouthed it and swam off and eventually let it go.
The big Brown as proably around 25". The small one was around 8".

I had a large Largemouth take a small Smallmouth that I was bringing in. I fought it for a while. but all I was able to land was a chewed up Smallmouth. On the same day, I had a real dragonfly pick up my EH caddis fly off the pond and actually fly a few feet with it. It hit the fly immediately after the fly hit the water.
