Didn't post this in the reports area because there is no topic for out of state reports.
Fished Black Earth Creek, Wi. on Saturday. There were blizzard hatches of Early Black Stones, Grannom Caddis, and Grey Caddis. At one point while tying on a fly I had about a dozen stones on my hands and arms. The mid-70's temps really got things going around 11 am.
Caught at least a couple of dozen fish. Biggest was a 18" Brown with incredible coloring. Saw this fish rising next to a log. timed his rises which were about 15 seconds apart. False casted while counting the seconds and placed the fly right in his kitchen and the second that it touched down, he ate it.
All the Browns in this creek are natural reproduced. No stocking. Caught one large Bow pushing 15". Bows are stocked everyother year here.
The water was a clear as I had ever seen it. Had to switch from a 6' furrled leader and 3' of 5x to a 12' with 6x tippet. It was tough to throw with my 8'- 3wt. Had to single haul on every forward cast to get the fly to turn over. Fish were spooked very easily. Water was low as was expected for this time of year. This is a Spring Creek and once the vegetation grows the levels come up about 1.5' as the vegetation creates static pressure in the water and holds it back, causing it to rise and slow the flow quite a bit.
Had a great time. Hope anyone of you guys got out in your area had a productive day as well.
