Hiya Everybody, I'm new to the area (moved to Williamstown about a month ago) and I just found this forum. I'm addicted to Fly Fishing, so I had to join up!
A little about me. I'm an amature boat builder, rodmaker, and fly tier (personal use mostly). I recently started fly fishing a few years ago and I fish every chance I can get. Still learning the ropes, but I'm getting there.
Over the past month, I've been hitting the Hoosic pretty hard. I wet a line everywhere from North Adams to the VT line. I've also been exploring the Green between rt 2 and the Hoosic. For the number of hours that I have put in, I have caught embarrassingly few fish. I know its July/August and the water is hot, but there should be a bit of action right?
Anyway, I'm happy to have found this community right in my new area. If anyone wants to get together to go fishing (flat or moving water), just holler and I'll be there.

Hello Oliver, welcome!
Hey, I like your avatar. looks like quite the vessel in production.
Anyway, this year seems a little different then years/seasons past. It's been slow right from the beginning for me as well.(my opinion)
I usually fly fish south of you, though if I have the time I'm open to change.
Maybe we can wet a line sometime?.......Phil

Thanks Phil. I'm always up for a drive, maybe we could meet up somewhere in the middle. yeah, my avatar is my Adirondack Guideboat after I got the skeleton done. I finished the boat in June and I LOVE it. Very light, fast, and stable. Take a look at the whole build here: owilliams.smugmug.com/Fishing/building-an-Adirondack

Hey Oliver, the other day I took a look at your boats progress photos from start to finsh. Well done across the board, and very cool!!
I also plan on wetting a line very soon, and I'll keep you in mind. My youngest son expressed interest in learning how to fly fish, so I'm in the process of gathering up some start up gear for him, mainly waders & such. The biggest issue with that is, he's between youth & adult sizes so its been a hard find so far. My other issue is, I'd have a differcult time getting out on the stream without him. I'd like/have to take him 1st on a outing to get his feet wet. (not really wet if you know what I mean) Anyway, its all good!!
Tight-lines..........Phil

I just recently taught my two brothers how to fly fish. Their day was made 1000X more fun by first doing a classroom session and then field practice before actually going to the stream. A couple of quick YouTube videos is plenty for the classroom work - that way, they have a few key bits of knowledge rattling through their mind while fishing. Also, a half hour of practice casting in the back yard worked for the field practice. Learning the basic casts before having the distractions of the stream in front of them will go a long way for them sticking with the sport.
Good luck with your son! PM me anytime you want to go out (most any afternoon, lunchbreak, evening, weekend, sunrise....)
-Oliver

Hey Oliver, Welcome to our little corner of the fly fishing world. The Hoosic can be a good fishing river but like most rivers the farther from the road you go the better the potential. I sent you a PM. AgMD

Tight-lines..........Phil Well I found some waders for my new addition(13yr old son)to fly fishing. As I stated before that he is between youth & adult sizes. So Sierra trading post had a pair in size Xtra small adult w/size 9 foot (kind of a rare find). Well they just arrived & he tried them on, and they fit pretty good. A little baggy, but better a little big then small. I was hoping they would have arrived this past Friday so we could try them over the weekend, but it looks like next weekend will be the maiden voyage with weather & time permitting. Stay tuned...........Phil

Good Luck to you and your son! My waders have been hanging up since April - I've just been fishing wet while the water is warm. With fall quickly approaching, it looks like they'll be getting some use again soon.

I'm well over do to wet a line!!!!! I actually really enjoy Fall fly fishing, so theres plenty of time to make up lost time.

The branch of the. Hoosac along Route 8 in Adams is the best. Check it out. Start on Grove St. And work upstream to the. Harbor.
