It has been a rough spring. I have been out of the water for the last month and a half. First the rivers got a bit high, then my Subaru died from old age, and then I tore a hamstring. Finally I got some stream time. Last weekend I spent the wee hours of the evening on the Battenkill in NY. The experience almost made up for the past. I happened on a stretch of river that was LOADED with hatchery fish that had been in long enough to learn to eat bugs but short enough that they hadn't learned that everything isn't bugs. With one wet fly, a Light Cahill, I HAMMERED 'em. In two hours I brought 15 to hand and had a half dozen threw the hook. No lunkers, all cookie cutter fish, but everyone of them was just plain fun. As much as I would like to think that my success was a result of my incredible fishing ability, --- we all know better. These were fish that just wanted to be caught. I was just lucky to be there to grant their wish. Now that things are nearly back to normal, I have hopes of spending some early mornings on the home stream. AgMD
