Well --- the season opened today here in Vt. Spent most of the afternoon at my home pool. A fair hatch of Hendricksons and a few caddis. The only rises to be seen were in one small patch of water. Wild, slashing rises like they were chasing rising caddis. They were not taking any of the naturals that drifted over them but were taking what I believe to be rising Hendricksons just beneath the surface. After a few failed attempts with normal wet flies and nymphs, I tied on a dry fly Hendrickson and fished it like a wet fly. Second cast, I connected with a nice brown that must have been 12 or 14 inches. The commotion of playing him must have put down any other active fish or perhaps he was the only one. After that all activity stopped and I could not raise another. Still --- not a bad way to open the season. Water temp @50* F. AgMD
