Over the past winter I purchased a left over Winston Vapor 5wt fly rod, and though I really didn't need another rod, or a potential fly reel. I saw the Cabelas Wind River reel in the 2012 Cabelas Fly fishing catalog. Long story short, I went to the retail store in E-Hartford Ct. to check it out and compare with other reels for my new rod. That day, they didn't have the 5/6 model in stock @ the store, so I ordered it. Well the reel arrived in the mail yesterday, and its great! For $29.00 bucks, you really have to check them out. Your thoughts are probably the same as my original reservations of thinking it must be a piece of junk for the price of $29.00 and let me tell you that it is not the case. Yes, its not an Able, Hardy or another high end, high priced reel. But if your in the market for a decent quality fly reel and your on a budget. I urge you to check these out first. www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Wind-River-Fly-Reels/1307921.uts?WTz_l=CQOTight-lines.........DRYFLYPHIL

I suspect that you will find it to everything you could want and all that you will need. For nearly 10 years my main reel was a Martin MG3SS. A pressed aluminum version of a Hardy Marquis and about the same price as your Cabella's. I fished the snot out of that reel and it looks it. It was everything I needed until I started hunting land locks. It sort of flexes a bit when you are working a big fish. It still gets fished every once in a while but for the most part it is retired. Let us know how you like it on the river. Maybe a pix with a fish. AgMD
