Anyone fishing the Deerfield, Westfield, or Housy or are the water temps still to high.
Thanks for any responses.

I haven't trout fished since the end of May/beginning of June anywhere, though the thought has crossed my mind. If we get a few cool evenings/mornings in a row it maybe worth wetting a fly line.
The Deerfield/Fife maybe decent with the controlled water levels?
Soon though, soon...........Phil

Yesterday the Hoosic in N. Pownal was at 76*F at 4:30 PM. Probably about the hottest for that day. The higher up the mountains and the deeper into the woods you go, the lower the temps are likely to be. But, There is not a lot of water in the mountain brooks so --- With the ground so warm only a real gully washer or a soaking rain that lasts many days will break things open. Nothing to do but get things ready for the fall salmon and steelhead runs. AgMD

Not directly responsive to your query, but I fished the South Branch of the Hoosic in Adams over the weekend.
No idea what the water temp was, but the air temp was 88 F.
Landed two rainbows (biggest was 15"), and lost another due to a rookie mistake (my knot untied from my hook). Also lost a good size brown (which "shook" the hook off) and a small brookie.

Drove along the upper East Branch of the Westfield today, and there isn't much water in there at all. My experience has been that when the conditions are like that up in Cummington, they're also pretty poor down in and below the gorge- high temps, little water, and lots of fish hunkered in whatever pools they can find (and unlikely to survive being hooked and fought- assuming they would even take a fly). I think the Deerfield tailwater below the dam might be ok this time of year, but the freestones are too low/warm.

With these high temps and little rainfall, I've been strickly fishing for sm bass over here on the upper Hudson and the Hudson surface temp was 81 last week. Waiting for September on the trout.
