Another Redington model fly rod broke. 1st time I was with 6wt when the 1st one broke, then the other was with a friend of mine "Doc" @ Alford brook club the other night. I was stringing my Redington CPS 7'6" 4pc 4wt, and when I was holding the top while pushing the line through the tip eye, SNAP! right off in my hand. At one time, I was a loyal Redington user/owner, and Let me tell you that I'm not happy with Redington products right now! The last new rod that broke before this one, was probably the last Redington rod that I will purchase. I think its time to become another brand loyal. Tight lines..............DRYFLYPHIL

I am not familiar with Redington's repair policy, but I am a big fan of Orvis rods. I have broken a few tips over the years and they always repair the rod for free. One time they could not repair the tip and sent me a brand new rod in its place. Best customer service I have ever dealt with.

Yea, I have a few Orvis rods, and I am an Orvis fan & becoming more & more everyday.
I've never broke an Orvis rod "knock on wood", but I know 6wt is a Big Orvis fan, and has broke a few. I believe he's been happy with their repair policy.
Redington repair/replacement costs $30.00 dollars, and Redington's repair policy isn't really bad. Its just the stupid way they brake that tic's me off.

Phil you have to know that there are only a few companies that make all of the blanks that fly rods are made from. Each company designs their actions and tapers and places their order for the blanks so its really not fair that you single out Redington. In fact, the Redington rod's blank could have been made from the same blank in any Orvis rod you own.
As for being an Orvis fan, be careful, their rods are over-priced for what you get. They even have the most expensive iPhone app currently offered. They are all about the money, in fact I don't and won't own a single Orvis product.
There are several excellent rods out there like the St. Croix Legend Elite and Legend Ultra Series which will out perform most Orvis rods.
You also have G Loomis who's Sr. design is the one and only Steve Rajeff. If that isn't a selling point for performance, I don't know what is.

Hey there Mark,
I haven't seen you post in a while, and hope all is well? As always, it is nice to hear from you.
Thanks for your input & opinion/advise on fly rods & blanks. Oh! I'm aware of the high prices of Orvis on all their products. The rods that I've previously purchased from Orvis were in my opinion at the time reasonable, and knock on wood, have been trouble free, that does say a lot.
Actually, the past legacy Redington’s that I own have been the same, knock on wood trouble free. The issues were with the two newest models recently purchased. The issue rods resemble the same actions in performance between each other. So I'm not sure if that had the negative impact with them being a different action and design with lighter tips, being different then other Redington such as my RS3 models.
I will say this, that the 1st Redington RS4 model that broke last June. Though they did charge me the $30.00 bucks specified in their warranty, they sent me two replacement tips, instead of just replacing the one. I guess kind of a stand up move.
The most recent Redington CPS rod model that broke a week or so ago. It appears that they replaced the tip, and that they didn’t charge me the $30.00 bucks this time. I guess another kind of stand up move.
So these two appearances of Redington good will, definatly helped settle the dust with me.
If someone asked me six months ago, I would have said Redington all the way. Today I still admire the Redington rods with their actions and feel.
But if I’m in the market for a fly rod going forward, I believe I’ll be more open minded, but Redington still may be there in the running. The reason being that during my research on fly rod manufactures over the years prior to any of my fly rod purchases. Most fly rod companies do/did charge something for their warranty replacement/services, and that wasn’t my complaint. It was just how the odd breaks happened that is my concern.
