Has anybody out there fly fish the Chesterfield Gorge & that Westfield River area after the TU Camp out is over?
Just curious how the fishing action is? I myself have never fly fished the Westfield, but I'm very interested on giving it a try.
Any thoughts anyone...............DRYFLYPHIL

Hi Dryflyphil,
I was there yesterday from 3pm until 6:30pm. Caught 3 nice rainbows in the Catch and Release section. Only saw 3 other people all day.

I've been in most of the branches and tribs around here and there are fish, TU didn't catch'em all. My luck has been with Black Wooleys & the leech (I Tye my own)

hsweren & wildguide,
Thanks for you input in reference to my question. For years I have a habit of going to the same old fishing spots, I go there so often, that pretty soon the fish in those spots are going to know my name. So I'm thinking of new destinations.
So 6wt, what do you think?

I've been doing pretty good in the Gorge. 2/3 times a week so far so i guess I've been lucky In some areas their pooled up in the larger areas, and I've been hitting them in the current. black wooleys and my homemade version. Minn-ickeyfinn Glad to say it's in my back yard sorta. Come out and fish just about anywhere in the Chesterfield Gorge just past the TTOR, Office bldg it's a dirt road that is getting worse by the day, you'll run into a gate at the end of the road. You can walk the whole road (East Branch Trail) for 7/8 miles down to the Knightville Dam area the fish are there. Heres a link. www.westfieldriverwildscenic.org/docs/EastBranchTrailBrochure.pdf Have fun.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention it'll be a rough walk in the river, strewn with rocks, large & small rocks / boulders. Casting room is great. Be prepared to do the East Branch shuffle. The fishing and scenery make it worth the trip.

Wildguide, thanks for that heads up. The Glendale section of the Housi where I've/we've fished before is the same way, TUFF WALKING!!!! But "it is what it is"
6wt, myself and if I can get a hold of Doc, maybe we'll give it a try?
Wildguide, How is the Westfield though Chester - Middlefield area, and how's the fishing through that stretch?

"How is the Westfield though Chester - Middlefield area, and how's the fishing through that stretch?" That's our West Branch section of the Westfield river watershed. Again it's a great time just about anywhere in our watershed. I've been lucky in there to, it's similar to the Gorge but it has steeper hills along side, more shaded areas, you can drive in part way on the dirt road It follows the river and there's some old stone arch bridges there. . It's also a great class 4 whitewater run in the spring & fall. Have fun. Check out this link for a map. www.keystonearches.org/HTM/KABTrail.htm

Got skunked in the gorge today. It was windy and cold, lots of tourists taking pictures. I'll make a run in there again next week.

Hey there Wildguide,
did the state do a fall trout stocking this year in the Gorge area?
just curious?
As soon as I get a few minutes/hours, I'm going to wet a line somewhere this fall.

Yes they did, that's what the paper said. Just wasn't my day there, maybe next time... It has been cold and there has been some rain here lately so the gorge is at a good flow for the moment.

Yea, I read that in the paper as well. I also saw the trout stocking trucks driving around the area a few weeks back.
So who knows??
Anyway, keep us posted..............DRYFLYPHIL
