Sorry guys, I couldn't open a new thread in the right topic so I'll put this here.
I searched YouTube the other day for vids on the Deerfield. I came across a 3 part series filmed, if I remember correctly, in the late 90's or early 20's.
Some guy travelled from N.H. to fish for a few days and ran into this black dude who fished the river on a regular basis. The guy showed him some spots that you have to walk the tracks pretty far to get to. The guys landed a ton of trout but 2 of them were amazing. One was bigger than the average steelhead and had to tape at 30+" and somewhere around 10-11 lbs. He also caught several more in the 20+" range.
On a big black wolly bugger.
I wish I knew exactly where he was fishing...

I've bumped into him several times on the Deerfield. Usually travels to the river by motorcycle. Very nice guy. He lives in the Berkshires.
Back in the late 90's the MA stocking program was much better than today. Also, they used to do a special float stocking with some monsters just before the annual one fly contest.

The guy showed him some spots that you have to walk the tracks pretty far to get to. Which aren't so easy to get to now that the tracks are patrolled on a regular basis and walking them is strictly forbidden (in this post 9/11 world)....
