I fished the South Branch of the Hoosic in Cheshire for a little while this morning.
Temps were cold (33 degrees) and the sky was partly sunny.
I was fortunate enough to land a nice 12 inch brown. Hopefully a harbinger of things to come this spring.
Certainly better than I did in the Josh Snyder Ice Derby just upstream at Cheshire Lake yesterday.

Hoxie,
one is better then none.
What did you catch it on, if you don't mind me asking?
Anyway, its great hearing of your success..............Phil

Phil:
I'm certainly not complaining. It's been a tough winter to fish. One of my usual standby brooks has been frozen over for the past month, and the other (at the Greylock Glen) just hasn't been producing - - possibly because of a wetlands restoration project going on there.
To answer your question, I caught my brown on a mealy worm. (Yes, I know it's not a fly, but I did release the brown unharmed).

Hoxie, don't feel bad about using meal worms. I use them sometimes myself on an occasion.
Have a good one....................Phil
